SAFERS project is networking with projects and initiatives related to forest fire and Earth Obsersation in order to make synergies, share experience and promote the activities and results. Some of the projects and initatives which have been contacted are listed below:

e-Shape

e-Shape is a H2020 project aiming to improve user uptake of Earth Observation data in Europe, by developing operational EO services and demonstrating the benefits of the EO pilots at national and international scale, across vertical markets (private and public), and amongst key user communities. E-SHAPE and SAFERS have 4 common partners (CERTH, CIMA, FMI and Riscognition). ARMINES (e-Shape project coordinator) is a member of SAFERS Advisory Board. Common activities involving SAFERS have been undertaken on co-design of EO applications. E-Shape is showcasing pilot applications in 6 thematic areas, including Disaster Management, under which SAFERS project will be able to contribute.

GFMC

The Global Fire Monitoring Center (GFMC), coordinator of the Global Wildland Fire Network (GWFN) and the International Wildfire Preparedness Mechanism (IWPM), is serving the Science-Policy-Practitioners Interface (SPPI) by providing advisory services to countries – directly or through assistance of international organizations – in the development, application, adoption or acculturation of national fire management policies, strategies and implementation plans. Their Focus is on the involvement and capacity building of local communities in fire management and development of cross-sectoral institutional fire management capacities. The GFMC has successfully supported multi-stakeholder dialogue through 'National Round Tables on Fire Management' and accompanying the development of National Fire Management policies.

Shelter

SHELTER is a H2020 project, developing a data driven and community-based knowledge framework that will bring together the scientific community and heritage managers with the objective of increasing resilience, reducing vulnerability and promoting better and safer reconstruction in Historic Areas. Networking has been established consindering the impact of fire risk on cultural heritage.

EFFIS

The European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS) is developed by Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission and is supported by a network of experts from 43 countries in European, Middle East and North African countries. It is one of the components of the Emergency Management Services in the EU Copernicus program. It provides very valuable applications and datasets (situation viewer, long (term monthly and seasonal forecast, global, wildfire information viewer,etc.). SAFERS project team and the JRC are collaborating through periodic coordination meetings in particular to set-up software interfaces between the 2 systems.

ENVISION

ENVISION aims to fulfil the need for continuous and systematic monitoring of agricultural land, shifting the focus from fragmented monitoring limited to specific fields and dates to territory-wide and all-year-round monitoring.

It uses heterogeneous types of available data and state-of-the-art technologies and methodologies for providing a fully automated and scalable toolbox of services, built-in close interaction with its future customers.

AFAN

AFAN aims at formalising a European wildfire expert knowledge-sharing network focused on fire risk analysis (or assessment) and risk reduction. The initiative has the sub-objective to scale up existing regional and national and international knowledge and capacities, transfer them with the mission of shared mutual learning and create the basis of an operational network based on trust and support to generate an overall improvement of the European wildfire emergency response capacities and coordination.
